Informed by his passion for student-centered educational values and practices, Peter enjoys using his truly impressive depth of experience in college and school admissions on behalf of the students and families he guides through the planning, search, and application process. His many years as a teacher, coach, advisor, and admission counselor in schools were focused on helping students discover and become their best selves. At McMillan Education, Peter combines these skills and values to ensure that students and families experience the full benefits of our deep knowledge of students, schools, and colleges, and our commitment to student-centered planning processes and results. When Peter is not working directly with students through a school, college or graduate program search, you can find him spreading the word about our W.I.S.E. Method of Educational Planning ™ and helping our new families begin to engage in the process of their own meaningful, knowledge-informed, and closely guided search and application experience.
Peter came to McMillan Education after seven years at Gulliver Preparatory School in Miami, Florida, where he directed the college counseling program and supervised a group of 10 college counselors. During Peter’s tenure at Gulliver, he introduced a strong emphasis on whole-student counseling and mental health to the counseling office’s practices, a focus that continues to inform his work and his contribution to the McMillan Education team collaboration today. Peter enjoyed a long tenure at The Brooks School in Andover, Massachusetts, where he wore many hats as a “triple threat” boarding school faculty member. In addition to running the college counseling office and being a member of the admission team at Brooks, Peter taught English and theology, coached Boys’ Crew, and worked in student life as an advisor and dorm supervisor. Using his skills for program development, Peter spent four years creating and implementing a comprehensive college counseling program in a new, forward-thinking independent school, The Bay School of San Francisco in San Francisco, California. Over the course of his educational career, Peter has cultivated relationships with college admissions offices and college counselors from other independent schools that he continues to maintain today.
Peter attended Harvard University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in English and American Literature and rowed for the men’s varsity crew team. His competitive crew career includes winning several national championships and competing in the Olympic Trials. Peter took his love of rowing to coaching crew after graduation, directing two rowing programs, one in Boston and one in Florida, and leading his high school crew teams to multiple medals and a team championship. Now he enjoys ushering aspiring collegiate athletes of all NCAA sports through the athletic recruiting process. As a lifelong learner, his interest in school strategic planning led him to pursue a master’s degree in business administration at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst’s Isenberg School of Management. His degree work at the graduate level has informed his work with graduate school planning students.
Peter and his wife Shannon live in South Florida with their two children Will and Eliza. They enjoy returning to see family in Cape Cod whenever they can make the trip by car so that they can bring along their beloved dog Coal. A displaced Boston sports fan in the wilds of South Florida, Peter loves to spend time outdoors hiking, cycling, rowing, and paddle boarding. He also loves learning about the business and strategic sides of higher and secondary education, which he credits for helping him and his students and families have the best and most complete context for the journey they take together.
