At McMillan Education Group, our team is focusing on The North Star as our theme for 2025. And with the year it has already been, what a poignant theme to expand on.
We are surrounded by chaos around the world sponsored by descriptors that include unrest, upheaval, and uncertainty – a powerful three for starters; not to mention the plethora of information sources that accentuate the three…and fear, chaos, worry… I digress. Back to the North Star.
Why the North Star theme? Through my eyes, it couldn’t be a more perfect metaphor. Constant, certain, unwavering (a powerful three for starters). I will add bright, beautiful, and powerful.
For those bottom-liners out there, forget about it. You’ll never get there. Elon cannot even get there (we need a bumper sticker). The meaning is in its guiding force to create certainty where you can, meaning, and guidance within yourself.
My North Star? Reminders to trust myself, even when I don’t have the answers. Frequently. Trust the process-remind myself that I have the strength to make it through, to figure it out, and that things will fall into place when the time is right.
I seem to be speaking in threes: Resilience, faith in the unknown, and self-reliance; clarity will come. As I reflect on the aforementioned groups of three, it is important for me to focus on things that bring me energy: surround myself with good energy; the people, humor, activity, and curiosity. On a daily basis, where possible. And get some sleep. Important.
A bucket filled with energy and the ingredients allows me to manage the unsettling space. The unsettling is always there if I choose to engage. Have faith. I’ve got this. I’ll figure it out. Be grateful for this moment. What a moment. Maybe a watershed moment…
I will wrap up with a few lyrics from solo artist, Colin Hay; yes, that man who was a part of the band that introduced me to a Vegemite sandwich, at least the idea. I am holding out:
