Betsy Hamre

Professional Outreach Specialist & Manager, Owl Boarding School Guide

Betsy is the first point of contact for most of our McMillan Education families. As our Professional Outreach Specialist, Betsy brings her knowledge of child, adolescent, and young adult development and admissions to the critical role she plays in learning about students’ goals and needs and helping families understand how our wide variety of educational planning services may assist them. Among the countless other tasks she performs for McMillan Education, Betsy interfaces with the over 130 schools we work with annually, while also managing McMillan Education’s Owl Boarding School Guide website. Everyone lucky enough to run across Betsy deeply appreciates her authentic warmth, genuine student-focused mindset, and kind and compassionate professionalism.

Betsy first became acquainted with McMillan Education as an intern while still a college student. She fell in love with the work then, seeing a seamless connection between her passion for and training in education and psychology and the world of admissions. As a result, following graduation she went on to serve as an admission counselor at The Dexter Southfield School, a Boston area K-12 independent day school, where she enjoyed building strong relationships with prospective students and families undertaking the admission process. In addition to admissions, Betsy loved her work in student life, where she had the opportunity to connect with students as an advisor, on the playing field, and on the daily bus trip to and from school. Now back at McMillan Education, Betsy employs her experience of the admission process at Dexter Southfield to support McMillan Education students and families engaged in their own best fit educational search.

Betsy earned her bachelor’s degree in educational studies and sociology from Colby College in Waterville, Maine. While at Colby, Betsy was deeply immersed in developing herself as an aspiring educator, taking on community service roles in tutoring and assisting local students involved in college readiness and preparation programming.

A native of the Metrowest area of Greater Boston, Betsy lives in downtown Boston, where you can find her taking long walks while listening to podcasts in her spare time. She also loves to cook, which she learned from her grandmother who was fond of saying, “If you can read, you can cook!”
